Conducting patent research is a complex and labor-intensive process during which the search, analysis and systematization of patent and other information related to the object of research is carried out on the basis of patent and other scientific and technical information

It is necessary to conduct patent research in accordance with current standards, within the framework of which the following are determined: - the level of technology - all publicly available information available in the world is studied up to the priority date of the item of technology under study, if it is established, or before the date of approval of the task for patent research; - patentability - compliance of the research object with the conditions of patentability. There are three conditions for patentability: novelty (the object must have world novelty); industrial applicability (the object must be suitable for use in industry); inventive step (the object must have features that are not obvious to a specialist in this field); - patent purity - a legal property of an object (machine, part, production method, etc.), which makes it possible to use this object in the territory of a certain country without the danger of violating the patent rights of third parties in force there. Not only the object as a whole is checked for patent purity, but also the technical solutions implemented in it, taking into account the patent laws, rules and judicial practice of this country. When conducting patent research for patent purity, national, regional (in particular, Eurasian and European) patents (including patents for industrial designs), as well as applications for which the convention priority has not been exhausted, should be taken into account. Part of general patent research for newly created objects is a patent search, which is the process of selecting documents or information based on one or more characteristics from available patent documents or data that correspond to the topic or subject of the request. The subject of the search is determined based on the objectives of patent research, the category of the object (device, method, substance) and which of its elements or properties are supposed to be investigated. A patent search differs from patent research in that at the stage of a patent search, an idea is formed, for example, of a set of keywords, search depth, and, if necessary, names of companies for which patent documents will be selected. That is, a patent search is the process of selecting patent information. It is an important stage in patent research.
