Inventions and utility models
A patent for an invention or utility model has territorial effect. For example, a utility model patent issued by the Russian Patent Office is valid only in Russia, and an invention patent issued by the Turkish Patent Office is valid only in Turkey.
However, it is possible to extend the patents to other countries and regions.

Ultimately the PCT:
gives applicants access to the whole world
simplifies the fulfillment of various formal requirements
allows deferment of major costs associated with international patent protection
makes patent decisions more informed
is used by major companies, research institutions and universities around the world when seeking international patent protection."
